I got yet another request yesterday for my Snickerdoodle cookie recipe, so I decided I'd better keep my promise and post it on my blog. I usually make these cookies every Christmas and often give them as gifts. They are pretty standard fair in the Midwest, but when I moved East I was surprised how many people had never heard of the cookie or tasted them. I've had other people tell me who are familiar with Snickerdoodles that this is just a particularly good recipe. Last year I brought a batch right out of the oven to my eye doctor. He still talks on and on about that every time I see him, and at one point actually suggested that I should open a catering business?! Too funny. Not in this lifetime Dr. F., but I'll definitely be bringing you some again this week so get ready!
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 3/4 cups flour
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 teaspoons cream of tarter
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
Cream butter with sugar, add eggs and flour sifted with cream of tarter, baking soda and salt.
Mix 2 teaspoons cinnamon with 2 tablespoons of sugar.
Roll small balls out of dough and dip balls into cinnamon and sugar mixture.
Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes in a 400 degree oven.
