Small Work For a Big Cause

Sometimes the one of the most enjoyable ways to create art is under deadline, and for donation. By time I had received the email from our local arts organization (Studio Montclair) about their upcoming fundraiser for Haiti... "Small Works for a Big Cause"...I didn't have very much time to get something together.

The piece to be donated had to be maximum 12x 12inches. Considering that a lot of my work is created on a surface the size of a door, I was going to have to come up with something new pretty quick. One deconstructed giclee print later... some wood and added text... I'm pretty satisfied with what I came up with. The print I chose to use is from one of my paintings... "Mandala #1 This Beautiful Battered World"...and it fits the tone of this horrific tragedy perfectly. The overlay of the map of Haiti which I added takes the piece to a whole new height.

Small Works for a Big Cause will be held in Montclair, New Jersey,January 31st from 2-5 at the BrassWorks, 105 Grove Street. Works will be sold for a suggested $50 minimum donation. All the proceeds will go to Haiti earthquake relief organizations. There will be live music and food. The last I heard, well over 100 pieces have been donated to the event.

If you are in the area, come by and lend your support. It's a great cause and there are many artists in Montclair who have gained world wide recognition for their work...so there will be a lot of fabulous art too (at a great price)!

The title of my collage, by the way, is "Conscience". The piece gives a definition of the word "conscience" and then contains the following text:

helping hands/commerce/travel/
humanity/vested interest/
